Duracoat Firearm Finishes
DuraCoat is a two-part chemical coating that was created specifically for firearms.  It is a hard polymer that can even be applied so that it is self lubricating.  DuraCoat stands up to extreme oil, solvent, cleaning chemicals, and is wear resistant.  It resists 100 inch pounds of direct impact and 80 inch pounds of reverse impact. DuraCoat has passed a 300 hour salt spray test, which far exceeds military requirements for firearms finishes therefore DuraCoat is well suited for salty environments.  One of DuraCoat’s attributes is its extreme ability to resist salt corrosion.  A firearm coated with DuraCoat simply will not rust... EVER!

Major manufacturers such as DS Arms utilize DuraCoat finishes on their rifles.  DuraCoat has proven to hold up extremely well under field conditions.  Even on parts such as FAL bolts, which are subject to significant abrasion due to the extreme cycling of the bolt, DuraCoat has held up well and proven to be extremely durable.

DuraCoat is not a flash cure application that will become brittle after curing resulting in chipping and flaking.  DuraCoat cures slowly so that after it cures it remains flexible which contributes to its excellent abrasion and wear resistance.  We like to say DuraCoat doesn't wear out, it wears in.  DuraCoat is permanent and with normal use, a firearm finished with DuraCoat will last several lifetimes.  DuraCoat can be applied over just about any surface including metal, plastic, or wood as long as the surface is properly prepared.  We have had great success using it on forearm rail covers such as the textured Magpul covers.

DuraCoat is available in 134 stock colors, 12 new Tactical Ultra Flat colors, 7 new electric colors, and 5 “Bloomberg Collection” colors.  With 3 Mirageflage camoflage patterns, 2 advanced camoflage patterns, and 29 standard camoflage patterns available, a color/pattern is available for any terrain.  DuraCoat can withstand temperatures as high as 500-600 degrees Fahrenheit.  With "normal" shooting, your barrel will never get close to being that hot.  If you are fortunate to own a transferable machine gun, or if you like to "blaze" with your semi-auto, do not put DuraCoat on your barrel, as your barrel temperature will rise over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit.  In those cases we recommend DuraHeat.

FAQ’s
How durable is DuraCoat?
DuraCoat is permanent. With normal use, a firearm finished with DuraCoat will last several lifetimes.

What is DuraCoat?
DuraCoat is a two part chemical coating. Unlike other firearm finishes, DuraCoat was created specifically for firearms. Other firearm finishes are "spin-off's" from other industries.

Is DuraCoat Teflon based?
Standard DuraCoat is not.  However, DuraCoat SL is.  Depending on your application and what you specify, we can apply SL or Standard DuraCoat. DuraCoat SL has Teflon which is a lubricating coating which is great for internals. DuraCoat SL Self Lubricating has all the same properties as the original DuraCoat, but with added lubricity for the ultimate self lubricating/non-stick firearm finish, perfect for internals and moving parts.  DuraCoat SL offers reduced friction, longer wear and the highest degree of scratch resistance, and is available in all the DuraCoat colors and camouflage patterns.  Your firearms will require much less lubrication with DuraCoat SL and more importantly, the cleaning of your firearms will be much easier and faster.  For the externals of the firearm DuraCoat's combination of elasticity and hardness creates a finish impervious to impact, scratching and the elements.

Will DuraCoat adhere to hard coat anodizing and Parkerizing?

DuraCoat loves hard coat anodizing and Parkerizing as a base. Both processes leave a good rooting surface for DuraCoat.

I hunt along saltwater. Will DuraCoat withstand the salty environment?
Certainly. DuraCoat is well suited for salty environments. One of DuraCoat's attributes is its extreme ability to resist salt corrosion. A firearm coated with DuraCoat simply will not rust...EVER!

Will DuraCoat burn off my barrel?
DuraHeat is available for parts that will be exposed to extreme heat.  This high performance coating is capable of with- standing temperatures of up to 1800 degrees.  DuraHeat is an excellent choice for barrels that will see sustained fire such as Light Machine Gun barrels or full auto rifle barrels.  When exposed to these types of high temperatures, DuraHeat becomes even harder and more abrasion resistant.  It is available in matte black, HK black, woodland brown, woodland green, woodland tan, stainless, & pewter.

How easy is DuraCoat removed?
Not easy at all. The elastic nature of DuraCoat resists blasting. A certified DuraCoat Finishing specialist, with the proper blast media, can safely remove DuraCoat without damaging the surface of the firearm. Be careful if you try to do this yourself or use non Certified DuraCoat dealers.

How come other firearm finish manufacturers boast hardness, but make no mention of elasticity?
In the case of firearm finishes, a common misconception is "harder is better". This is faulty "old school thinking". Hardness means brittle and brittle means chipping. DuraCoat, being elastic, will not chip. If your DuraCoat chips, it means you have a preparation problem. Most likely, the surface was not clean. Elasticity provides protection by "giving" when confronted with impact. Elasticity also helps prevent scratches and mars.
